Magnesium L-threonate for ADHD

Magnesium L-threonate is a compound of magnesium and L-threonic acid. Magnesium L-threonate is a degradation product of vitamin C.
Magnesium L-threonate is said to be one of the first drug candidates for ADHD that works by modulating the glutamatergic system1

A very small study claims to have found benefits of complementary administration of magnesium L-threonate (L-threonic acid magnesium salt).23 A slightly larger study (N = 105) found improvements in memory with a magnesium L-threonate formula4
Phase III studies on magnesium L-threonate are to be conducted.5

NRCT-101SR and NRCT-101XR are medicines containing magnesium L-threonate.6

In preclinical studies, NRCT-101SR showed an increase in glutamatergic synapse density, function and plasticity in PFC and hippocampus. This may help to improve cognitive function and mood regulation.1

NRCT-101SR is currently being investigated in Phase IIb and Phase III clinical trials for the treatment of ADHD in adults and children.78
