Moclobemide in ADHD

Moclobemide is a reversible MAO-A and MAO-B inhibitor1 and subsequently inhibits serotonin and norepinephrine metabolism so that serotonin and norepinephrine are broken down more slowly and consequently are available for longer.

No diet is required due to reversibility.

Only a very small number of sources on moclobemide in ADHD can be found.

  • PubMed finds only one study under moclobemide and ADHD since 2000 that addresses treatment of comorbid opiate addiction and ADHD.2
  • Häßler reports good efficacy on the ADHD symptoms of hyperactivity and frustration intolerance.3

High side effects at the beginning.
Tapering off when discontinuing.

Moclobemide is likely to be useful in only a few specific ADHD cases.
